New Low Budget BenQ Projectors Boast 4K

BenQ has added two DLP projectors to its CinePro Series that deliver 4K resolution for considerably less than 10 grand.

The THX-certified HT8060 ($7,999) and HT9060 ($8,999), featuring proprietary HDR-optimization technology, are based on the latest DLP chipset and incorporate BenQ’s CinematicColor technology for enhanced color.

The HT8060 covers 100% of the Rec 709 color space, according to BenQ, while the HT9060 reaches the DCI-P3 color space thanks to the use of the Philips ColorSpark HLD LED system, which negates the need for lamp replacement and delivers “three times the light output of current LED technology.”

Both models have a new 14-element, six-group lens optimized for 4K and support the HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) HDR formats in addition to offering auto color and tone mapping for greater brightness and contrast. They also employ the same black equalizer technology BenQ uses in its gaming monitors to “reveal the details lost in dark areas without losing clarity or displaying incorrect greyscales.”

Other common features include horizontal and vertical lens shift, 1.5X zoom, and the Imaging Science Foundation’s ISFccc Certified Visual Calibration suite.

Both projectors have front-facing ventilation for installation in a cabinet or wall inset and are compatible with the optional Panamorph Paladin anamorphic lens, which delivers a 2.4:1 aspect ratio without letterboxing.

BenQ provides a factory calibration report with each projector to confirm that it has been tested and adjusted for precise D65 color temperature, gamma, black level, white level, neutral gray, RGBCMY color tracking, hue, saturation, brightness, and output from different interfaces based on ITU-R Rec. 709.
